Hi guys, long time no post! We’re still in the process of raising support and hoping to return to Honduras, so KEEP PRAYING!!! As of now, we’re staying with my (Becky) mom in Hampton Roads, VA. We got the chance to hang out with a lot of our friends who are in the area that we maybe haven’t seen since the wedding! Sorry for the lack of updates, it’s just that not much new has happened in our support raising…

On another note, we would like to wish all our friends and family a super-duper (can you tell it’s not Dave writing this? too many exclamation points, I guess!)…

Ok, we’re now in NC visiting Dave’s parents and visiting some more churches. The well in Honduras has gone in, so progress is getting made there and we’re hoping to get back and lend a hand! They’re raising funds to start building the bath houses and laundry stations! I’ve requested pictures of the well from Julie, so hopefully we’ll get those up soon!

Some new perspective

Hello friends and family, we’re still here in Florida, though planning a trip north within the next 10 days. Our support-raising is going a bit slower than we had originally hoped (wanna support us??? eh? eh?), but we know that God is in control! Thankfully we don’t have to be! All the same, I (Becky) can tend to become a bit disheartened and the lack of funding was beginning to get to me, until this morning and I read something that put it all back into perspective!

Now, let me start by saying that in La Ceiba, I go to a missionary women’s Bible study and we do various group studies together. The group is finishing Beth Moore’s The Beloved Disciple: The Life and Ministry of John. When I say the group is finishing, what I really mean is that I am quite behind and am only about halfway through! In today’s study, Beth Moore shares with us something that would take place between her and her daughter when she was a toddler:

“Amanda was one of the dreamiest and tenderhearted toddlers you can imagine. I often stooped down to talk to her so that I could look her right in those big blue-green eyes. Every time I squatted down to talk to her, she squatted down, too… and there we’d be. The gesture was so precious I always had to fight the urge to laugh. I dared not, though, because she was often very serious about those contemplative moments between the two of us.

Of his God the psalmist wrote, ‘Your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great’ (Ps. 18:35). The Amplified Version says it this way: ‘Your gentleness and condescension have made me great.’ I don’t think the Scripture intends the modern world’s concept of greatness. I think it says of us, ‘You stoop down and make me significant.’ Yes, indeed. And when the God of all the universe stoops down and a single child recognizes the tender condescension and bends her knee to stoop as well, the heart of God surges with unbridled emotion. And there they are. Just the two of them.”

Oh Beth! Oh Lord! Amen!! Support? No support? What does that matter when my Lord of all stoops down to draw near to me? (James 4:8) Who are we that He is mindful of us? (Ps. 8:4)

Lord, may You make all of us worthy of Your call!

Well folks, we’ve been here in Florida for about a month. We’ve been working on several things and had some time to rest and visit people too! We’re staying with my mom and Paul and visiting churches to try and raise support. We’re still quite a ways from our goal, so spread the word! Soon we’ll post again, but I wanted to let you all know where we were!

Here is an article that shows the opinion of Roberto Flores, the Honduran ambassador in the US. He was appointed by Zelaya but doesn’t support him. Today on CNN he spoke and reaffirmed that the military acted upon laws and decisions from the Supreme Court and the Congress. Also, keep in mind that Micheletti is the Speaker if the House, the next in line after the arrest/removal of the president and vice president. He is not involved in a power play, and he is from Zelaya’s own political party! PS – if a bipartisan Congress unanimously agrees to remove the president, shouldn’t we take a second look before insisting on his reinstatement and calling it a coup???

US vice-president Biden’s words when speaking on Israel were that the US, “cannot dictate to another sovereign nation what they can and cannot do.” OK… except when it’s Honduras?? C’mon people!

Well, very soon we will be back in the States. We are scheduled to arrive in Miami on July 7th, and we expect to be there. As the political situation continues to develop we may have to change it, but God willing all will go as planned.

Make sure to understand what’s really happening here in Honduras. I am so proud to see the people here resisting Zelaya’s Chavez-esque (they call it “chavismo” here) power plays. The Honduran people are still standing firm in the face of bullying and criticism and I congratulate them! Don’t just take Obama’s comments as “right” just because you like him (and believe me, I really don’t have anything against him, I’m actually quite disappointed in him now) . Knowing the truth from the inside, it’s plain to see that he’s wrong.

Here, in Spanish, there is a proverb that says “Dime con quién andas y te diré quién eres.” In English, “Tell me who you spend time with, and I will tell you who you are.”

Zelaya embracing his choice of friends -- Raúl Castro and Hugo Chavez. Doesn't that make anyone take a second look? If the American people find the lack of democracy in Cuba and Venezuela so offensive, why is it disapproving of a nation resisting the same oppression?

Community Transformation Honduras — The beginning of a beautiful friendship…

Ok, well it’s not really the beginning of a friendship, Dave and I have been friends with the Hines family for 2 years and counting. It’s also not quite the beginning of our role in the ministry, that was when the New Life Missions Team arrived in La Ceiba, June 18, 2009. But, it is the beginning of a new blog! Exciting, I’m sure!

Dave and I are super excited about being a part of Community Transformation Honduras and even more so to play a part in the pilot project in Las Delicias. Our hearts have already formed strong attachments with many people and we are fully sure that this is where the Lord has us. We’re headed back to the States to raise support so that we can return. The Lord has a plan, and we can’t wait to see the way He will accomplish it!

In unrelated matters, the political situation seems to be holding at the moment, and we are praying for peace and the Honduran people. We are SO PROUD of our adoptive nation for standing firm for democracy! Keep on, Honduras, resist, “Come near to God and He will come near to you.” (James 4:8) May the media networks in the United States cover the truth, may freedom remain, and may peace prevail!

We went downtown to see the peace march, those thousands just in La Ceiba who were in support of the actions of the military and congress. Here are some photos so you can check it out!

We arrived towards the end, but people just kept coming! There were 3,000 supporters of the new government downtown, calling for peace in Honduras.

The police and military was there to protect the peace rally people from the Zelaya supporters. Luckily, as there were no incidents, it proved to be a simply precautionary measure.
